This title changes hands a few times every decade, and the Bugatti Veyron has just reclaimed it. Bugatti’s latest model, the 16.4 Super Sport (1200hp), set the latest land speed record at 267.81 mph [268] on July 4th, 2010, at the proving grounds of the Volkswagen Group at Ehra-Lessien (near the headquarters at Wolfsburg). The original Veyron topped out at 253 mph (1001hp). 30 Grand Sports will be produced at a cost of $1.8 million each.
The Keating TKR is bumped down to second (260 mph) [although still not officially confirmed by Guinness World Records] and the SSC Ultimate Aero TT down to third (257 mph).
The now out of date top 10 can be found here, with personal favorites at #5 (McLaren F1) and #10 (Porsche Carrera GT).
